Amazon makes it really easy to order stuff. However, there are many reasons why you may want to delete your Amazon account. For example, you might not wish to use the services or no longer want to support Amazon. Whatever the reason, it is easy, though not straightforward, to delete your Amazon account.

How to Delete Your Amazon Account

If you’re sure you want to take your shopping somewhere else and delete your Amazon account for good, follow these steps.

PC

If you’re browsing Amazon on your PC via your browser, access the main Amazon page and make sure you’re logged in with your account.

Hover your mouse over the Hello, your name option in the upper right corner of the display. Select Account from the menu.

On the Your Account page, scroll down all the way to the bottom to the Manage your data section. Click on Close Your Amazon Account.

Note: if you think you might need your Amazon data for later use, select Request your data first. This way you can download your orders, payment options, subscriptions, search history, information about your other Amazon subscriptions (Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, Amazon Photos) etc.

Amazon will attempt to get you to hold on to your Amazon account by listing all the benefits you’ll lose if you delete the account. If you’re sure there’s no turning back for you, scroll to the bottom of the page. Choose a reason for why you’re deleting your Amazon account and check the Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon account and delete my data option underneath. Finally, hit the Close My Account button.

Amazon will send you a confirmation email, to which you need to reply. Once you’ve done so, Amazon will delete your account and data for good.

Mobile

If you want to do this from the Amazon mobile app, it’s possible. Open the app and switch to the Account tab from the bottom.

All the bottom, you’ll find the Manage your data section. Press the Close Your Amazon Account option to initiate the deletion process. Follow the steps numerated above to erase your Amazon account.

What Happens When I Delete My Amazon Account?

Deleting your Amazon account has many implications:

  • The account will no longer be accessible to you. You’ll no longer be able to see things such as order history or invoices (unless you’ve opted to download your Amazon data beforehand.).
  • You’ll end up losing access to content such as videos, music, and ebooks that you’ve purchased through Prime Video, Music, or Kindle. Amazon also recommends that you download content you might have uploaded to Amazon servers, such as photos, before proceeding to delete your account.
  • If you have an Amazon Prime membership, deleting your Amazon account will have the effect of canceling Prime across all Amazon websites. If you only wish to renounce the Amazon Prime service, check our post which walks you through the steps of canceling your subscription.
  • Any available Amazon gift cards will no longer be available for you to use. The same goes for your Amazon Appstore purchases and available coins.
  • If you also have an AmazonDx, comiXology, Amazon Business account, or Amazon Web Services, you will no longer be able to access them anymore without an Amazon account.
  • Closing your Amazon account will also terminate your access to Amazon Pay, preventing you from using it for transactions on other websites and services that accept Amazon Pay.
