Messenger to Allow HD Photos and Larger Files

Spread the love

There are many messaging app options. There are the default ones that come with Android and iOS, as well as WhatsApp, SnapChat, and Facebook. Messenger appears to be looking to break out of the pack, or at least become more competitive with the others. Meta announced Tuesday that it is rolling out new features that will allow you to send HD photos and larger files, create shared albums, and more.

FYI: are your friends unavailable in Messenger? Read on to learn why.

HD Photos

With the new changes to roll out on Messenger, you will be able to send crisp photos in HD inside your chats. I’ve checked, and I don’t have this feature yet in my Messenger, and there are no waiting updates in the App Store, but I trust that these changes are coming soon.

If you need to share photos in higher definition, you won’t need to switch to a different app anymore. In the tech world, we want to keep visitors to our websites and apps as long as we can, and this should help people stay on Messenger a little longer.

Create Shared Albums

A nice perk on some messaging apps is creating a shared album. If you go on vacation with your family or a friend, you can create a shared album so that you can all share photos to it. You’ll have access to all the photos that were taken by everyone. You won’t need to wait for them to send them to you or post them on Facebook.

Everyone in the chat will be able to view, add, delete, and download the pictures and videos in the shared album. You’ll be able to keep track of what’s in the folder by tapping on the group name, just as you can with other settings. It’s not available yet, however, as Meta announced it would be rolling out in the coming weeks.

Add New Friend with QR Code

Because of people with similar names, it can be difficult to find the right “Mary Smith” on Facebook. But you won’t need to worry about that anymore, as now you can add new friends and connections with your personal QR code.

This happens to be a change already working on my Messenger, on both my iPhone and iPad. Go to your profile, and click on the icon in the upper left. This brings up your QR code. The other person can scan the code to automatically add you as a connection. They can also share a link by tapping **Share**.

Send Files up to 100MB

As if it’s not enough that you can share large photos, you can also share large files. You don’t have to resort to sharing them via email anymore. You can now share files up to 100MB. Even better, you can share most file formats, including Word, PDF, Excel, and ZIP.

Once again, it seems that Meta is trying to make it so that you don’t have to go anywhere else, other than their apps other social media apps, which include Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Read on for some alternatives to Meta.
