What Is Amazon Prime Day?

Imagine a day (or two) with amazing discounts, flash sales, massive promotions, and the kind of deals you don’t see very often. That is Amazon Prime Day: a shopping event that was launched in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary. It is available exclusively for those with Prime memberships (one of the many benefits Amazon Prime members can enjoy).

This sale event, which typically lasts for a couple of days, is an opportunity to grab the items that usually feel out of budget. You can find massive discounts on popular brands across various categories.

Prime Day is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and many other countries. You need to be a Prime member to avail all the amazing discounts and can even sign up for a free 30-day trial to get started.

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Prime Day will return on Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, following the usual tradition of Prime Day falling in mid-July. The Prime Day sales will last 48 hours, which is plenty of time to grab everything you have been wanting to get or already have on your wishlist. This, however, is not all.

In the weeks and days leading up to Prime Day, Amazon typically releases early deals and discounts, which is basically a teaser before the big release. Expect to see discounts on Amazon’s own devices, such as Echo speakers, Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers, and Fire TV sticks, as well as other merchandise.

How to Prepare for Amazon Prime Day 2024

Amazon Prime Day is just a two-day event. This means the window for grabbing the best deals is limited, especially if you are looking through the limited-time offers. The best way to make the most out of the event, in this case, is by preparing beforehand.

First and foremost, you need to be a Prime member. If you haven’t signed up for it yet, you can by navigating to amazon.com/prime. If you are offered a free trial, click on the Start your 30-day free trial button, and enter the required details. If you are not offered one, you will need to pay a subscription fee to continue.

Once your account is up and running, consider making a list of everything you need. All the deals and ads on the main day can make things a bit confusing, so this will help you stay on track during the event.

Another helpful tip is to set up deal alerts in the Amazon app. Some deals last 48 hours, while some are only around for a few hours. Thus, keeping your devices handy and acting quickly can help ensure you don’t miss out on items you have been eyeing.

To create a deal alert, open your Amazon app, and search for “Deal alerts” using the search bar. Tap on Deal alerts -> Create alert. It is worth mentioning that only recommended or recently viewed products will show up in the Get Deal Alerts section. You may not be able to create alerts for all the products you want.

There are also multiple ways to track the price drops on Amazon that you can follow.

Lastly, it is best to keep an eye on multiple sites. Amazon has several competitors, most of which offer their own deals and discounts around the same time. You can check Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and other competitors to find the best deals for yourself.

What to Expect on Prime Day 2024

Amazon does not disclose the exact details of what is going to be discounted. You will find significant savings on electronics, tech gadgets, home goods, fashion, beauty products, and more.

According to the e-commerce giant, while the products themselves have not been mentioned, this year it will offer the lowest prices of the year on selected items from Barbie, L’Oréal, and Shark. You will also see deals from Elemis, Ghd, Ninja, Samsung, Bose, Fitbit, Oral-B, and Sony.

Apart from this, expect popular Amazon devices to be discounted up to 65%. Some of these deals will launch before Prime Day officially starts.

Excited about seizing the savings and going on an online shopping spree? Amazon Prime Day is an event you should mark on your calendars. While you wait for July 16th, consider installing one of the best browser extensions to save money while shopping.
