The new Control Center on iOS7 is very handy for accessing a number of important apps and toggles. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a similar feature on our Mac that let us easily access iTunes, display other functions and help us change the brightness directly from the Menu Bar?
Controls+ is a nice app that bundles simple quick toggles into a native OS X app that sits in the menu bar, ready for immediate access and use.
If you choose to purchase Controls+, in addition to other features, you will be able to adjust the brightness of your Mac’s display with a very simple slider. The app also has a very nice feature that allows users to drag an image into a placeholder to quickly and efficiently change the desktop wallpaper on your Mac. You can also set a screensaver and activate it through the app, as well as activating a function that will let you turn your device’s screen entirely white, a feature that the development team think is particularly useful for video calling on the dark.
Music that is playing through iTunes can also be viewed through this app. You can also pause the music that you are listening to in addition to being able to play the next or previous song in the playlist. And if you want mode, you can use the timer and stopwatch feature of this app. If you’re familiar with the OS X’s dashboard, you’ll know that most of these features are already available there, but they need to be separately downloaded or configured. Having all these features set up and ready-to-use in one place is a great thing indeed.
Controls+ is available to purchase for $4.99 in the Mac App Store. At $4.99, this app is reasonably overpriced considering the really limited number of features currently available, but what we have heard is that the developer intends to continue developing new capabilities for the app, and that he would like to hear from early adopters about what features they’d like to see in future updates. What we want to see now is features like display size, volume controls, Bluetooth settings, WiFi options, and anything else that traditionally resides in its own menubar icon added to make this the ultimate all-in-one functionality app.
