1. Edit Anything

This one’s a gem. Using the Edit Anything extension, you can modify the text on any website you visit – from news sites to X (Twitter). This offers endless opportunities, whether it’s customizing your friend’s Twitter feed so that it looks like Ryan Gosling is tweeting them to say “hello” or changing news stories as demonstrated in the screenshot.

Note that sharing the link to the edited article won’t work. To pull off the prank, you’ll have to install the extension on their PC and quickly edit the text. Alternatively, you can screenshot the page and send them the snippet.

The Edit Anything extension works very well from our experience and opens up untold ways to freak out your friends. After installing the extension, click on the Edit Anything icon in the extensions bar. It will show On. Click on the text that you want to change and type the new text. If the extension doesn’t work, try the Edit extension instead.

2. Cornify

The Cornify extension adds sparkly unicorns and rainbows to a webpage. Click on the extension icon to activate it. Once you do so, clicking the mouse button will populate the page with unicorns.

If you want to use this for effective pranking, install it and spam it onto a friend’s page when they leave the room. The more your friends dislike unicorns, the better. Then draw attention to it when they return.

If you’re feeling particularly mean, you can pretend like it’s a symptom of the dreaded Unicorn virus. Perhaps after fabricating a Unicorn virus news story using the previous extension? Refresh the page to stop the unicorns.

3. Prank ’em

The Prank ’em extension offers a wide variety of tools to prank your friends, such as a blur screen, black and white, hidden cursor, and more. The extension lets you customize the amount and area of the screen you want to affect. Your unfortunate friends will wonder just what the heck is going on.

Our personal favorites are hiding the cursor and blur, they aren’t obviously pranks, and they’ll more than likely result in a lot of confusion and frustration. Just don’t let the joke go on too long! Pranks like these could make someone really mad. Especially since refreshing the page doesn’t do any good!

To disable the effects, you will need to open up the extension and disable all the modifications you’ve made, potentially giving away your prank.

4. Custom Doodle for Google

The Custom Doodle for Google extension allows you to add a custom doodle for the Google homepage to prank your friends. You can add a custom text or use an animated image.

Your friends will be surprised by their name or any relatable text showing up on their Google homepage. What better way to prank a friend and make them think that they are famous enough for Google to set them as their Doodle?

Sadly, you cannot use a custom image, otherwise, that would have been hilarious. Once you install the extension, click on the extension to type custom text and select a new picture.

5. Cenafy

Cenafy is an extension that rolls a 1/100 chance for the user to be hit with a face full of unexpected Cena every time they load a new web page.

This extension is completely ridiculous, it’s hidden deep in Extensions, and nobody will ever see it coming. It’s not an extension you can install and immediately see the fruits of, but it is an extension you can sneakily install on your roommate’s laptop.

It’s an extension you can hear blaring AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA from the other room while your roommate shouts in confusion, just wanting to watch Netflix.

6. Millennials to Snake People

If the tantrums of millennials are getting on your nerves, you can use the Millennials to Snake People Chrome extension to prank your millennial friend or family member.

This extension basically replaces the word millennials in Chrome with snake people. Again, you’ll either need to install this on your friend’s PC or show them the page on your own device. You won’t be able to share the link, as the changes won’t be saved.

So if your friend reads an article or searches for anything related to millennials, he/she will be taken aback by the Snake people showing up instead of Millennials.

7. TrollFace Everywhere

TrollFace Everywhere is an extension that replaces every image and video in Chrome with a troll face. Whenever your friend tries to open any webpage, all they will see are troll face pictures instead of regular images or videos. Your friends will think they have been hacked or have a virus related to memes.

Your friends will think they have been hacked or have a virus related to memes. The effect will not go away with simply refreshing the page, you’ll need to turn off the extension first.

The extension will make them scratch their head. They might see the troll face even in their dreams.

8. Crazy Page

The Crazy Page extension will make the web page go bonkers. Your friend will be surprised to see the web page turn into an animated, rainbow-colored page with a weird cursor.

This will make it impossible for them to continue using the page, so if you’re nearby, you might hear them gasp in shock.

Be careful! It may freak them out too much. The extension, needs to be manually activated, however. So if they happen to refresh the page, the effect will go away.

Tip: have you heard of parallel downloading? It’s a feature available in Chrome and here’s how to enable it.

9. Hair on Screen

Who doesn’t hate it when they see random hair or a dust particle on their screen? With the Hair on Screen extension, you can add digital hair to your friend’s laptop.

No matter how hard they try, they won’t be able to remove it (because it doesn’t exist). This extension works best on pages with a white background.

The hairs are pretty subtle, but once you see them you won’t be able to unsee them. The extension lets you increase (or decrease) the hair count on the page, or randomize hair appearances. Refreshing the page, does not remove the hairs from view.

10. Fart Attack

Want to scare the hell out of your friend? Try the Fart Attack extension. This Chrome extension plays a terrifying fart sound when you click any link.

Your friend will be surprised for his/her lifetime with this extension. They will never forget the sound, especially if the computer has a high volume.

You can also enable fart noises when hovering if you want to make their browsing experience a total nightmare. Moreover, the extension allows you to hide the extension’s icon in the address bar, so that the victim won’t know what hit them.

11. Jumpscare

Want to play a more sinister prank on your friend? If you know they enjoy a good jumpscare or Halloween is approaching, consider installing the Jumpscare extension on their PC.

Now, the next time they open a tab they might be greeted by a ghoulish smile and a terrifying face starring back at them. There’s also a chance they’ll encounter a cryptic message instead, which unfortunately can easily give your pranking intention away.

The creepy apparitions don’t interfere with Chrome’s functionality per se. Your victims can continue to use the tab as they normally would, after getting over the initial shock.
