Twitter and X No Longer Available on Mac App Store

Spread the love

Elon Musk taking over Twitter and changing the name to X has not been a popular change with everyone. With the app no longer listed on the Mac App Store and not found with a search for either X or Twitter, is this because of a difference of opinion between Musk and Apple?

X App Not Available for Macs

It’s being widely reported that the X, formerly known as Twitter, app is no longer available on the Mac App Store. When I did an Internet search for X or Twitter on Mac, I was either met with a dozen or so articles about it disappearing or a message that the app is not currently available.

Not that it means you have to do without X if you’re on a Mac, as If you already have the app installed, you can still use it. And you can also access it in your browser. But if you don’t have the app on your Mac yet and were looking forward to it, it’s no longer an option – at least for now.

The Mac app had not been updated in about a year, and it had never picked up the new name of X. It stayed as Twitter. That seems to spell trouble right there.

At the time of writing, X and Elon Musk had not commented on why it is no longer available on Macs.

Good to know: have the app and just want to find your friends or contacts on X? We can help.

But What About iPads and iPhones

It doesn’t appear that there is just trouble between Musk and Apple, as X is still available on the iPad and iPhone. It’s even available on Apple TV still – just not Mac.

When I did a search in the App Store on my iPad, it brought me to the X app and showed me that there was an update available. It was updated one day ago, which seems to add up to X updating the mobile apps but deciding to pull it from Mac for some reason.

I checked on Windows as well. It seems to still be branded as Twitter on Windows, just like it was on Mac. And it’s still available. It’s also still available on Android.

With no formal word on why the X app, still branded as Twitter, disappeared from Mac and not Windows, it’s left everyone to imagine why – whether it’s a disagreement or just the whim of Musk is unknown.

But if you enjoy the Twitter app on your Mac, do not delete it, as you may not get it back. If you’re through with it all and just want to delete your X account, we can help you with that, and can also suggest some great Twitter alternatives.
