Create Your Own Fonts With These AI Font Generators

Even typographers aren’t safe from artificial intelligence, as there are already many font generation tools that let you generate new unique fonts, find the right font pairs, and much more. I’ve tested many AI font generators in recent weeks, and these are my favorites.

Best for Generating New Fonts: AI Create

Price: Free

AI Create’s Font Generator offers a user-friendly platform for creating custom fonts without breaking a sweat. It’s the only tool on this list that can generate TTF font files that you can add to your font library on Windows, macOS, or Linux.

The font-generation process is very simple, but the results can be surprisingly useful. Start by selecting one or more font categories and assigning them different weights. Do you want your font to resemble handwriting, for example? Just select the category, and give it a large weight.

To further influence the style of the generated font, choose multiple styles, such as bold or hollow. Click the Generate Font button, and wait a few seconds for your TTF file. While the generated fonts can’t really replace fonts created by professionals, they can be useful for experimenting with styles without the need to invest in expensive software or time-consuming manual design processes.

Best for Applying Styles to Text: Adobe Express Text Effects

Price: Free with premium options

Ever wished you could conjure up eye-catching text effects with just a few words? Enter Adobe Express Text Effects. This feature of the Adobe Express content creation tool uses generative AI to transform plain text into visually stunning creations.

Describe the style you’re after – such as “neon lights in a cyberpunk city” or “organic, flowing letters made of water” – and watch as the AI brings your vision to life. The tool offers a range of customization options, allowing you to tweak fonts, tints, and styles until you achieve the perfect look.

I’ve used the Adobe Express Text Effects feature to generate text logos for a client’s social media profiles, and they instantly became very popular with both the client and its audience.

Best for Finding Font Pairs: Fontjoy

Price: Free

Fontjoy, created by Jack Qiao, takes the guesswork out of font pairing with the power of deep learning. The tool uses a neural network trained on thousands of font combinations to understand the subtle relationships between different typefaces.

Click Generate to see instant pairings, or they can lock in fonts they like and generate new matches for the remaining slots. As such, it serves as an excellent starting point for designers and non-designers alike to discover compelling font combinations.

Given its relatively simple nature, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that Fontjoy is completely free to use. The same developer has also created an interesting Font Visualizer app, which lets you explore fonts as if they were stars in a galaxy, and I recommend you check it out.

Best for Animated Handwriting: Calligrapher.ai

Price: Free

Calligrapher.ai is a simple, but clever web app that transforms typed text into fluid, handwritten strokes, complete with a mesmerizing animation that mimics the act of writing.

Users can tweak parameters, such as legibility, stroke width, and overall style, to achieve the perfect handwritten look. The animation speed is also adjustable, to allow for quick scribbles or thoughtful, deliberate penmanship.

Once you’ve crafted your perfect handwritten text, download it as an SVG file by clicking the download icon. This vector format opens up a world of possibilities. You can import the SVG into graphic design software to further customize the text, scale it without loss of quality, or integrate it seamlessly into larger design projects.

Best for Generating Handwritten Postcards: Handwrytten

Price: Starting at $3.25 per card

Handwrytten offers a unique twist on AI-generated handwriting by combining digital technology with physical robotic writing. Using custom-designed robots equipped with real pens, the service lets its users create authentic-looking handwritten notes that bridge the gap between digital convenience and the personal touch of handwritten correspondence.

Type your message, choose from various handwriting styles, and select card designs (or upload your own). The service employs AI to check that each note looks great before the robotic systems pen the message onto high-quality stationery.

But it doesn’t stop there: Handwrytten handles the entire process, including addressing, stamping, and mailing your cards. While the cost of sending one handwritten postcard is quite high, I can see using this service for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and thank you notes.

If you can’t find the font styles you need or want, you only have to use an AI font generator like those mentioned here to create your own. If you can’t decide between OTF and TTF fonts for your AI-generated fonts, we can help you learn the difference.
