How to Schedule Your Mac to Start Up or Shut Down at a Specific Time

Spread the love

One of the features that I love about my Mac, but rarely get a chance to use, is the scheduling feature. You can schedule your Mac to start up or awake at a specific day/time, or every day at the same time. Likewise, you can schedule your Mac to sleep, restart or shut down at a specific day/time, or every day at the same time.

This is a very useful feature for those who are on a set schedule each day/week – especially those who work from home. For instance, you can schedule your Mac to turn on a few minutes before it’s time to work. Maybe you leave your Mac on all evening and want to schedule it to shut down after the time that you usually go to sleep.

Luckily, all of this can be done without installing any additional apps on your Mac. Here’s how.

1. Open System Preferences and click on “Energy Saver.”

2. Next, click on the “Schedule…” button at the bottom right of the window.

3. In the small window that slides down from the top, you can schedule your Mac as you’d like. There are two separate options: Start up or wake and Sleep/Restart/Shut Down – you can enable one or both.

When it comes to the day/time, you can choose: weekdays, weekends, every day or a specific day of the week; you can enter any time that you’d like.

This is a great productivity featured that can help to save you time in the morning and/or evenings. Plus, it will help to save your battery by shutting down at a specific time each day.
